HOLLAND AND BAKER SHINE AS COUNTY UNDER-17S TRIUMPH IN OPENING GAME

Worcestershire Under-17s launched their ECB County Championship programme with a crushing 295 run win over Gloucestershire at Bishopston CC in Bristol.

They picked up 23 points for their splendid efforts – 16 for the win plus three batting and four bowling points.

The Under-17s resumed on the third and final day on 233-5.

They added a further 68 runs in just 6.5 overs before declaring on 301-6 to set their opponents a demanding 418 target.

Dan Holland, who was unbeaten on 56 overnight, added a further 37 runs of just 20 balls before he was dismissed for 93.

He struck two sixes and 13 fours in his 163 ball knock.

Wicket-keeper Henry Cullen chipped in with 32 not out containing one six and four fours before the declaration.

The Under-17s bowlers quickly made inroads when Gloucestershire replied with two wickets for Gabriel de Souza and one for Charlie Williams reducing them to 23-3.

Josh Baker came on first change and he wreaked havoc for the rest of the innings and finished with the excellent figures of 13-5-21-6.

The other wicket fell to Aaron Tomson who dismissed top scorer Ewan Gegg (correct spelling) for 36.
