ANDERSON HANDED DEBUT AS WOMEN’S RAPIDS PREPARE FOR “VITALLY IMPORTANT” PERIOD

ANDERSON HANDED DEBUT AS WOMEN’S RAPIDS PREPARE FOR “VITALLY IMPORTANT” PERIOD

steve magoffin says the next three games are “vitally important” to worcestershire women’s rapids hopes of remaining in division two of the ecb county championship.

the rapids face a double header over the bank holiday weekend in the 50 over competition.

they are away to cricket wales at pontarddulais cc tomorrow (sunday) – when they are handing a debut to ellie anderson – and then entertain somerset at kidderminster cc 24 hours later.

the rapids will then be in action at New Road on june 2 against essex.

magoffin, who is lead coach and manager of the women’s rapids pathway programme, said: “following a very disappointing day against durham last sunday, where we found ourselves in a match winning position, but couldn’t put the game to bed, we head to wales knowing that the next three games are vitally important for us to remain in this division for 50 over cricket.”

“we have made changes to the squad, with rachael howells returning following a shoulder injury, and ellie anderson joins the team for her rapids first team debut.

“we have given ellie the opportunity in the first team following a winter where she impressed all of the coaching staff, and along with hannah baker, shows our commitment as a club to the development of our young pathway players.

“it’s a big weekend of cricket for the team as we then face somerset at kidderminster cc on monday.

“again we have trained and prepared very well, not just for the remainder of the 50 over competition, but looking ahead in preparation for our t20 campaign next month.”
