Jack Haynes Helps Ombersley To Achieve Bham League Cup Glory

Worcestershire CCC Academy player Jack Haynes hit a half century to help home side Ombersley defeat Berkswell by three wickets in the Birmingham and District League Graham Williamson Trophy final yesterday.

Haynes struck 50 off 54 balls with two sixes and three fours and shared an opening stand of 114 with Liam Gwynne as Ombersley chased down Berkswell's total of 255-7 in 40 overs.

Nick Hammond – a member of the Academy's 2015-2016 intake – hit 55 from 52 deliveries before he was fourth out at 231.

Then ex County all-rounder Gareth Andrew (16 not out) and Dominc D'Oliveira (eight not out) saw Ombersley to the trophy off the final ball as they reached 258-7.

Alex Hepburn impressed with bat and ball on the previous day for Berkswell as they won by four wickets in a Premier Division fixture.

The Worcestershire all-rounder returned 2-24 from 10 overs and then made a restrained 57 not out off 117 balls as his unbroken seventh wicket stand of 74 with Dominic Ostler (41) saw Berkswell home.

Academy member Dillon Pennington – due to make his Seconds debut against Gloucestershire tomorrow – returned 3-36 from eight overs for Shrewsbury as Brockhampton were bowled out for 170 in reply to 267-7.

Another Academy intake member in Josh Dell made 96 off 99 balls for Ombersley with one six and 17 fours as his side chased down Kidderminster's 237 all out and won by seven wickets with 9.1 overs to spare.

In Division One, George Rhodes made a run a ball 51 with one six and six fours for Barnards Green who totalled 315-8 versus Walmley.

But it was not enough to secure victory as the home team replied with 316-8 with a ball to spare. Rhodes had figures of 2-54 from 10 overs.

Worcestershire batsman Alexei Kervezee scored 31 and had figures of 3-51 with the ball as Bromsgrove defeated Himley by 21 runs, scoring 225-7 and bowling out their opponents for 204.
