Worcestershire CCC captain Joe Leach gave his reaction after the third day of the Specsavers County Championship clash with Nottinghamshire at New Road.
Leach said: “Where are we in this game? I suppose at this moment we are behind in the game.
“That first session of the day was probably more than a little bit disappointing. It did a bit and it’s been the third wicket in a row that has been difficult to bat on, certainly with the new ball.
“But we’ve probably got to be a little bit better. I’m sure as a group we know that and then it didn’t seem to do quite as much this afternoon.
“I thought we stuck to our task relatively well and for us to get the second bonus point just before the close of play is obviously a real bonus.
“We will see what the weather brings tomorrow. I know the forecast is not fantastic but, if we do get out there, we will be trying to get that third bonus point and then we are going to have to scrap hard to try and save this game.
“Stuart Broad and Jake Ball are not a bad opening partnership? It’s not but it’s Division One cricket isn’t it? All these attacks have got ‘names.’
“We fully believe we are capable of fronting up to these type of guys. It’s not a question of skill level or anything like that.
“We just haven’t got it right so far. No excuses from us. We’ve just got to be better.
“Did they bowl better as a unit? I think so. The scoreboard would suggest that. Luke Fletcher was phenomenal. He was really high class this morning, albeit when it was more helpful in those first two hours.
“The wicket has been sat under the covers for two days and they exploited that which is fair play to them.
“I thought our four bowlers stuck hard at the task for as long as we could and tried to make it difficult for them to score as it flattened out throughout the day.
“We did build a little bit of pressure there, the back end of Ross Taylor and Chris Nash’s partnership and running through from there. We were probably good value for our six wickets.”
