We’ve been counting down all winter to the new season – and now there are just 50 days to go before Worcestershire CCC return to Specsavers County Championship Division One action at Blackfinch New Road.

It only seems five minutes since we were saying in January ‘100 days to go’  but the new campaign is approaching as fast as a Josh Tongue delivery!

The players are itching to get going in the middle and flew out yesterday to Abu Dhabi for their traditional pre-season camp.

We’ve had a mini flood, a dose of Siberian weather and a big dollop of snow in the past month.

But it’s gone now and the opening home County Championship game will soon be upon us.

Just watch as the 23 days left in March – 9 to 31 – and the first 27 of April rocket by.

New Head Coach Kevin Sharp and new Head Bowling Coach Alan Richardson have quickly settled into their roles and have been joined this week by new Second Eleven Coach Alex Gidman.

The trio are working flat out in tandem with new CEO Matt Rawnsley, captain Joe Leach and the players and leaving no stone unturned in preparing for the 2018 campaign.

Nottinghamshire will be the first visitors to Blackfinch New Road on April 27 for the start of the four-day fixture.

It is a battle of the two promoted teams at the end of last season.

Almost before you can say ‘Worcestershire, Division Two Champions and Royal London One-Day Cup North Group winners’ the action will have returned to Blackfinch New Road!
