Twelve years after making his first class debut, Heino Kuhn could hardly be in better form as he prepares for his South African Test baptism against England at Lord's next week.
The 33-year-old had already enjoyed a successful first half of the summer with South Africa 'A' hitting an unbeaten double century against Hampshire and another hundred versus England Lions.
Now, after being preferred to Stephen Cook in the Test party, Kuhn continued in the same vein with an unbeaten 80 before retiring out, also against the Lions, on the second day of the three day encounter at New Road.
Facing England's attack at the home of cricket may require him to step up yet another level, but in terms of preparations he could have done little more.
Kuhn particularly profited from the cut shot and had batted for 126 balls and struck 16 boundaries before allowing some of his other colleagues time in the middle under the continuing gloomy skies.
Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma also honed their skills with half centuries against the Lions attack in which Sussex paceman George Garton again caught the eye.
Amla was typically assured and composed in making 91 off 148 deliveries during a partnership of 138 in 37 overs with Kuhn before also voluntarily curtailing his innings.
JP Duminy was in aggressive mood from the start, striking leg spinner Mason Crane for two sixes in his 25, before becoming Garton's second victim of the innings.
He went for an expansive cut and Sam Robson pulled off an excellent catch at second slip away to his left.
Liam Plunkett bowled a threatening post lunch spell and accounted for Theunis de Bruyn lbw with a swinging delivery after he failed to trouble the scorers.
Bavuma and De Kock scored freely and a six over long-off from the latter off Crane brought up the 300 in the 72nd over. De Kock (51) stopped going through with his shot and holed out to Joe Clarke at cover off Keaton Jennings.
But Bavuma continued on untroubled to reach 85 before bad light and drizzle halted proceedings with South Africa on 382-4 from 97.3 overs.
