Leach And Barnard On Opposite Sides Down Under

Joe Leach and Worcestershire colleague Ed Barnard will be on opposite sides this weekend after arriving in Australia for a winter's cricket.

Leach will be playing for North Canberra Gungahlin against Barnard's Queanbeyan District in the Australian Capital Territory First Grade competition.

Leach enjoyed a fine season with bat and ball for the county with Barnard part of the England Under-19 squad and showing signs of his all-round potential in the Worcestershire second eleven.

Worcestershire opener Richard Oliver will skipper Geelong City in the away clash with Murgheboluc after leading the Melbourne-based side to victory in their opening Geelong Cricket Association Division One match against Leopold.

Second eleven player Alex Hepburn will play for Willetton Dragons with the Perth based side entertaining Scarborough in a Western Australia Cricket Association first grade encounter this weekend.

Hepburn bowled two overs for nine runs and was dismissed for two after opening when Willetton lost their opening match by 50 runs to Gosnells.

Paceman Jack Shantry and wicket-keeper Ben Cox have arrived Down Under to begin their spell with Greenvale Kangaroos who visit Melbourne this weekend.

Shantry's Ian Botham-like performance against Surrey with bat and ball helped the county to secure promotion to Division One of the LV = County Championship.

Cox impressed behind the stumps and scored his maiden first class century against Hampshire.

The Kangaroos were beaten by 134 runs in their opening Victorian Premier League match with Fitzroy Doncaster.

Ross Whiteley is to again play grade cricket for Adelaide-based Prospects Cricket Club who compete in the South Australian League.

Whiteley won the county's T20 award after his unbeaten 84 off 38 balls with nine sixes against Derbyshire secured a place in the quarter-finals.

Gary Sobers, Barry Richards and ex Worcestershire duo Younis Ahmed and Lou Vincent have played for Prospects.

Brett D'Oliveira will fly out to South Africa in early November to play for Cape Town side St. Augustine.
