New Worcestershire skipper Joe Leach is "excited" about the prospect of working with 2017 overseas signing John Hastings.

Leach believes the Australian all-rounder will be a big asset in all forms of the game for the County with bat and ball.

And Leach also feels Worcestershire will reap the benefits of having an overseas player who should be available for the majority of the season.

He said: "It is a fantastic signing. He is a proven player, a consistent wicket-taker – as well as a lower order run-getter – across all forms

"I'm very excited to be working with him. I know from playing against him at Durham that he tries hard and is everything that we are about as a side.

"He is a great addition and to have him for the period of time we've got him is helpful.

"All the lads who came this season were very nice lads and, you look at their records, they did well, but it is nice to have a consistent face for the bulk of the season.

"It's good for people to look around and know that there is someone you can depend on week in and week out and I'm sure John will do that."

Leach added: "Do I expect him to pass on knowledge to the young lads? By all accounts, when he was at Durham, he was fantastic and that probably showed the way he performend and the way people around him performed.

"In white ball cricket as well, he brings a fantastic range of skills and gives us more options, bowling with the new ball and at the death than we've had before."
