Leach Looking To Continue Where He Left Off With The Bat In 2015

Worcestershire all-rounder Joe Leach is hoping to continue in 2015 where he left off during the final stages of last season with the bat.

Leach scored two crucial half centuries in the promotion clinching win over Surrey, the value of which cannot be over-estimated given the circumstances even though it will always quite rightly be remembered as Jack Shantry's match.

He had also dug in to register another 50 plus score in the previous game away with Derbyshire at the County Ground when the county were facing an uphill first innings battle although they ultimately lost that encounter.

But Leach, who picked up 33 wickets in 12 games last summer, admits that he needs to score runs on a more consistent basis as he prepares for life in Division One of the LV = County Championship.

Leach said: "I think batting-wise in first class cricket I probably have not achieved what I should have done.

"I think I averaged 23 last season. I should be averaging over 30. The bowling has come on beyond belief and I'm really happy with where that is at the moment.

"But the batting, I still feel I've got a little bit more to give.

"What I showed in the last six weeks of last season is what I'm capable of rather than the first six or seven week block I played.

"I didn't score many runs at all. I don't know whether that was down to the new found thing of actually being a bowler rather than in the past I've always been a batter."
