Chris Russell hopes to pose an even bigger threat to opposing batsmen if given the opportunity to play NatWest T20 Blast cricket for Worcestershire this summer – by developing "a Plan B and Plan C."
The county paceman was his side's leading wicket-taker in the short format of the game in 2014.
Russell picked up 16 wickets in his opening six games but then lost his place in the latter stages of the competition after, in his words, he "went the distance" against Warwickshire in the defeat at Edgbaston.
Now Russell is working on other skills which he can call upon if his main plan of attack fails to bear fruition should Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes restore him to the side.
He said: "T20 Blast cricket last year was probably bottom on the pecking order of what I thought I was going to play.
"I honestly didn't think I was going to have a sniff.
"I did okay in the "Seconds, had a plan that wotrked for me and then got my chance, stuck with what I knew and it went quite well.
"I picked up 16 wickets in six games and then I played Lancashire and Warwickshire and I wasn't as fit as I would have liked.
"I went the distance against Warwickshire. I had a plan that worked which I stuck with that which, at times, I probably shouldn't have done.
"I backed myself because it worked for the first six games.
"This winter is about developing some more skills, having a Plan B, Plan C so, if my main plan doesn't work, I can try something else."
