Worcestershire Chief Executive David Leatherdale today paid tribute to Joan Grundy who has retired after 17 years sterling service at New Road.
Joan has been PA to the chief executive and Director of Cricket with the county since 1997.
But she will still be seen at the club on a regular basis as she is a staunch supporter of Steve Rhodes' side and will now enjoy watching them in action.
Many members of the office and playing staff attended a recent farewell function for Joan.
Leatherdale said: "Joan has been PA to Mike Vockins, my predecessor Mark Newton and myself for 17 years. She has decided it is time to retire after her husband retired 12 months ago.
"She has very much been a stalwart of the club and it is typical of the club and where we are at in that once people start here they seem to stay a very long time.
"She has brought a lot of qualities. It is a PA role that covers Director of Cricket as well as myself. She has been a mother to some of the younger guys that come through, she deals with all the rules and regulations, is on the end of a telephone when someone is in a hotel and needs the bill paying etc.
"It is very much that family element. It is not just someone who sits and types a letter as you might think of a typical PA. It is a far, far broader role.
"She will be sorely missed. It took a lot of soul-searching for her to decide now to retire because she loved the job.
"It is typical Joan that she has already offered to come in and help her replacement to help get her settled and explain what needs to be done.
"She will be sorely missed but I am sure she will enjoy retirement and travelling around the country watching the lads play."
