steve magoffin is determined to try and repeat the level of performances that have become his trademark in county cricket after rejoining worcestershire for the 2018 season.
magoffin wants to help skipper joe leach’s side to “look to trouble a few teams” in division one of the specsavers county championship.
the australian has shown himself to be a consistent and reliable member of the sussex attack – predominantly in division one where worcestershire are returning next season after going up as champions.
the 2017 campaign was frustrating from an injury point of view for the australian who now has a british passport.
but magoffin, who has signed a one year deal, will be working hard this winter at New Road and malvern college so he is firing on all cylinders in april and also looking to pass on his knowledge to the raft of young pace bowlers at the club.
he said: “this season has been frustrating with injury, one of those years, but i have to put that behind me and work hard in the winter.
“i have to get myself back out there and try and keep the level of performances i have expected of myself over the years.
“i wouldn’t get myself out there if i didn’t think i could still perform at that level.
“worcestershire have gone up and we want to stay up. that’s the aim. if i can add a bit of experience to the side from playing in that division, all well and good.
“they’ve got some really good young talent in that side including the bowlers and if i can help them along their way and teach them a thing or two, that will be good.”
magoffin will be one of worcestershire senior pros along with the likes of daryl mitchell and – when england commitment allow – moeen ali while assistant coach-bowling coach matt mason was also part of the squad during his first spell at new road in 2008.
he said: “it is a new fresh team these past few years that bumpy has got together and very enthusiastic.
“they have put up a real good show for themselves over the last couple of years.
“i think it is quite exciting for me to be able to join that group and try and help the guys not just stay in division one but be really competitive and look to trouble a few teams in the first division.”
