MARTIN AMONGST LEADING SIX HITTERS IN VITALITY BLAST

worcestershire rapids 2019 vitality blast player martin guptill departed New Road on sunday as one of the leading six hitters in this summer’s competition.

guptill smashed 19 sixes in his nine appearances for the rapids in the t20 format.

it is the joint fourth best tally in the tournament – and guptill has played less matches than any of the trio of players above him.

aaron finch (surrey) has cleared the boundary 23 times in 13 games, essex’s dan lawrence 20 in 10 matches and somerset’s tom banton 20 in 12 appearances.

guptill is level on 19 with essex’s cameron delport who has played a match more.

next best for worcestershire is guptill’s opening partner riki wessels with 12 sixes in 10 games followed by wayne parnell – 11 in 10 – and skipper moeen ali – 10 in three.

guptill, who exited his north group campaign as the rapids leading run-scorer, is currently preparing for new zealand’s trio of t20is in sri lanka.

he scored 22 off 24 balls with two sixes in a 33 run warm-up win for the black caps (168-6) against a sri lankan board president’s x1 (133-9) in katunayake.
