Matt Mason Gives Reaction To Victory Over Durham

Matt Mason Gives Reaction To Victory Over Durham

Worcestershire Rapids Bowling Coach and Assistant Coach Matt Mason gives his reaction to BBC Hereford-Worcester's sports editor Trevor Owens after the three run win away to Durham Jets.

Question: A great win Matt?

Matt Mason: It was a fantastic win at Durham. I thought we showed a lot of character. It was a tough pitch to bat on. We found scoring boundaries really hard. It's a big ground and hitting fours and sixes was difficult.

I thought we got ourselves a competitive total. We weren't sure if it was the total we were after, if it was a par score or not, and after the first three overs of their batting, we thought we were in a bit of trouble.

But what a fightback and Saeed Ajmal, brilliant.

Question: A good knock from Tom Kohler-Cadmore?

Matt Mason: Tom came off a little bit frustrated. I think he felt he hadn't done enough but as it turned out, it was a fantastic performance for us.

Again with the ball, after the initial mauling from Mark Stoneman, who batted beautifully, the character from the lads to come back, in the field and by taking wickets at regular intervals, got us back in the game.

It was a great comeback against a team at the top of the table.

Question: It looked like everyone would be going home early when Stoneman was batting?

Matt Mason: That is the nature of this crazy T20 game. It can change in just an over. Wickets slow the scoring down, put the new batter under pressure and suddenly you are back in it.

As long as you field well and keep believing, you can win and you do get the result.

Question: A maiden over in T20 over cricket, which Saeed managed is pretty rare?

Matt Mason: It was crazy that the first three overs went for what they did (40) and then you get a maiden. In the powerplay, that is a terrific effort.

But Saeed has worked so hard on getting back to this level of cricket and he has just shown us he is a master and no matter what people throw at him, he always come back and defies everyone. He is brilliant.

Question: Good work in the field and Ross Whiteley did brilliantly and the ball seemed to follow him?

Matt Mason: That's the nature of T20 cricket. You don't want to be hiding guys in the field. Ross, you'd almost pick him for his fielding alone because he is such an athlete and he loves fielding.

He is terrific and he has got a reputation. You can see batsmen don't want to take that second run on his arm either and he is a great asset in the field.
