Worcestershire CCC wicket-keeper batsman Alex Milton made history today in becoming the first player to score 1,000 runs in a season in the South Wales Premier Cricket League (SWPCL).
Milton achieved the feat when playing for leaders Cardiff in their home Premier Division match with champions Newport at Forest Farm.
He had gone into the game needing 27 runs to reach the milestone and duly completed it in his accustomed opening role for Cardiff when they batted second.
Milton went onto make an unbeaten 79 from 134 balls with five fours as Cardiff clung on for a losing draw at 152-9 in reply to Newport’s 200 all out.
With one game remaining, Milton has scored 1,052 runs in 16 innings at an average of 87.66.
He has amassed five centuries and also six half centuries for the title-chasers.
It is a superb effort by Milton who has also been in excellent form for Worcestershire Seconds in recent matches.
This week he scored two half centuries against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.
The SWPCL was formed in 1999 as the South East Wales League before being renamed two years later.
