Mitchell Santner wants to make up for the injury frustration of 2016 as he prepares for the start of his second stint of NatWest T20 Blast cricket with Worcestershire Rapids.
The New Zealand all-rounder played in the rain-hit County Championship match against Glamorgan last summer and then broke a finger while fielding on the boundary in the T20 Blast opener with Durham Jets at New Road.
It brought a premature end to his spell with the Rapids but now Santner is back and with unfinished business to take care of starting with tomorrow's sold out home clash with Birmingham Bears.
He flew into England last week and has played two warm-up games after taking a short break back home following the Black Caps early elimination from the ICC Champions Trophy.
Santner said: "Last year was frustrating. I only got to two games, one in the Championship and one T20.
"It was a bit disappointing. When you come to a new club, you want to make an impression and I didn't get a chance to do that.
"The four-dayer at Glamorgan, I got 30 not out and then it rained for two days! Then came the injury.
"Hopefully I will have a complete (T20) season and help the boys win some games.
"John Hastings is a quality overseas player as well. I am definitely looking forward to hopefully getting on some spinning wickets – but I doubt it!
"Is it unfinished business? I think so. Everyone was kind of disappointed I had to go home and so was I without showing what I can do.
"That's why as soon as Bumpy (Director Of Cricket Steve Rhodes) said do you want to come back, I said 'yes, I want to give it another crack'"
Santner admitted: "As soon as the ball hit my finger, I knew it wasn't great but we found out in the next few days that it was broken.
"It was healing okay and I think I was in line to play one of the games against Warwickshire (Birmingham) at Edgbaston.
"But we got it re x-rayed and it showed the fracture had moved so I had to have a couple of pins in there and then I shot home."
The good news for the Rapids is that Santner is available for the entire competition should they secure a first ever finals day spot.
He said: "If Worcestershire get through, I'll be available for the finals. I've no cricket back home, we've got nothing until the India tour in late October, so it is a good time to play some cricket."
Santner is targeting the Rapids repeating the start they made 12 months ago in the T20 Blast with four wins out of five before the campaign fizzled out.
He said: "Hopefully we can get off to a flier again. This year the competition is more compressed so once you get on a role you can take the momentum all the way through the games – and hopefully get to finals day.
"The boys have been playing some good cricket in the Chamionship and qualified for the home semi-final in the one-day cup.
"They have been winning games of cricket which is good and hopefully we can take that in the T20s."
Santner can strike a heavy ball and is happy to bat where the situation demands in the order.
He said: "The earlier you go in, I guess you've got a few more balls to get settled. With the nature of T20 cricket, there is more time than you think.
"Twenty overs is still a long time. Depending on what we want to do, I think I'm a bit of a floater in the batting order.
"If they want me to do a job somewhere near the top I'm happy to do it, and the same at the end."
