Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell has highlighted the difference between the two divisions in the LV = County Championship – the need to perform to the best of your ability for all four days.
Mitchell says the accent has to be on consistently firing on all cylinders – and even one bad session can be almost impossible to recover from in Division One compared to Division Two.
The 31-year-old, who scored 1,334 Championship runs last summer, captained the side when they defied the odds to stay in the top flight in 2011 after being promoted the previous year.
Mitchell said: "The difference in Division One is if you have a bad session it is almost impossible to recover from it.
"Teams put their foot on the throat and beat you and ensure they take advantage.
"In Division Two, you can have these little mishaps here and there and still recover and get a result out of the game.
"It is all about trying to be consistent in Division One and playing good cricket for four days – not just for two and a half."
Mitchell is already looking forward to the challenges ahead in 2015 after completing a decade of first team cricket at New Road.
He said: "Division One is where you want to be. You've got to try and test yourself against the best sides in the best division.
"The gap is getting greater and the more time you spend in Division Two, the greater that gap between you and them is going to be.
"It is really important you get in that Division One and test yourelves against the likes of Notts, Warwickshire, Yorkshire and try and knock a few of them over."
