MITCHELL ONE SCALP AWAY FROM BECOMING COUNTY’S T20 RECORD WICKET-TAKER

Daryl Mitchell’s first victim of 2020 in Vitality Blast cricket will make him Worcestershire Rapids record wicket-taker in the competition in his own right.

Mitchell ended the 2019 campaign with 92 T20 wickets in total for the County.

It put the 35-year-old joint top of the Worcestershire wicket-taking lists in the short format of the game alongside paceman Jack Shantry.

Mitchell’s ever so effective wicket to wicket medium pace bowling formed a key component in the Rapids attack this summer when they came so close to retaining the Blast trophy.

Of players who bowled 20 or more overs in the competition, Mitchell had the fourth best economy rate in the country.

He conceded just 6.41 runs per over from his 36 overs, one of which was that rarest of the rare T20 commodities – a maiden.

Rapids Blast captain Moeen Ali is next in line behind Mitchell and Shantry on 72 wickets.

Mitchell is also by some distance Worcestershire’s leading catcher in T20 cricket with 66 chances safely pouched with Ed Barnard (39) next in line followed by Ross Whiteley (36).
