Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell showed great defiance with the bat as his side went down by 113 runs on the final day of the LV = County Championship match with Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
Mitchell dug in for nearly four and a half hours in making 76 off 204 balls with 12 fours.
Worcestershire were at one stage 175-2 in pursuit of their 324 target but the last seven wickets went down for 35 runs in 24 overs.
They were eventually bowled out for 210 shortly after 5pm with Alex Gidman unable to bat after suffering from concussion on the second day when hit on the helmet by a Ben Hilfenhaus delivery.
Worcestershire claim five points from the game – the maximum three for bowling and two for batting.
Tom Fell was the other main contributor for Worcestershire with his second half century of the game and he and Mitchell added 112 in 35.3 overs.
But after Mitchell's lengthy resistance ended shortly after tea, a flurry of wickets went down with half-fit Notts paceman Andy Carter claiming 4-46.
Worcestershire resumed on 13-0 this morning in pursuit of a 324 victory target with Richard Oliver on 11 and Mitchell two.
Mitchell got the scoreboard moving with a straight drive for four in the opening over from Brett Hutton.
But Oliver did not add to his overnight tally when he was adjudged lbw to Ben Hilfenhaus at 17-1.
Fell's first delivery yielded a false stroke against Hilfenhaus which flew away to the boundary for four.
But Worcestershire's leading run-scorer in LV = CC cricket this summer generally looked in good touch and collected an all-run four against Hutton.
Mitchell needed treatment when he was hit on the hand by a ball which reared up from Andy Carter but was able to continue.
Fell collected two boundaries in an over from Carter as the 50 came up in the 17th over.
Another over from Carter yielded three fours – two of them to Mitchell – and his 50 stand with Fell was raised in just 12 overs.
Hilfenhaus returned for a second spell and was off driven to the ropes by Fell.
The 100 was posted in the 30th over and Fell went to his second half century of the game with a single off spinner Samit Patel – from 76 balls with eight fours.
Mitchell went to the milestone in the final over before lunch from Hutton – from 105 deliveries with nine boundaries.
Worcestershire resumed after the break on 117-1 and Mitchell and Fell extended their stand to 112 in 36 overs before the latter was trapped lbw by Hutton for 58.
Joe Clarke looked in good touch and a back foot drive brought him a boundary off Hilfenhaus.
The England Under-19 player then clipped Patel through mid wicket for another four.
A thick edge for four at Hilfenhaus's expense by Mitchell brought up the 150 in the 51st over.
Clarke turned Hilfenhaus off his hips to the ropes but then Andy Carter knocked back his off stump for 29 with the total 175-3.
The Clarke-Mitchell stand was worth 46 in 16 overs.
Worcestershire resumed after tea on 189-3 and Patel, who bowled unchanged for 30 overs, had Mitchell caught off the sweep shot by Carter at fine leg.
Ben Cox picked up two boundaries in an over from Hutton to take the total past 200.
The county wicket-keeper was on 19 when he was caught at mid wicket off Hutton and Joe Leach (2) was pouched at short leg from a Carter delivery.
Ed Barnard (0) survived for 32 balls before he was bowled by Patel, Saeed Ajmal (0) was trapped lbw by a ball of full length from Carter and the same bowler wrapped the match up when Charlie Morris (1) was taken at leg slip.
