Steve Rhodes says Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell is "too good a player to keep missing out" in LV = County Championship cricket.
Mitchell will go into tomorrow's battle of the promoted clubs with Hampshire on the back of a confidence-boosting 58 – and figures of 1-13 in four overs – in the NatWest T20 Blast success over Leicestershire Foxes last night.
The 31-year-old has had a lean start in red ball cricket after last year's heroics when he scored 1,334 Championship runs with five centuries.
But there have been signs in recent innings of Mitchell returning to form and no-one would have worked harder in the nets to regain that magic touch.
Director of Cricket Rhodes said: "Mitch had a great game against Leicestershire and to me he thoroughy deserved the man of the match award.
"His all-round efforts were fantastic, not just his batting but his captaincy as well.
"I was very pleased for Mitch himself. He is hurting he hasn't got the runs he wants in four-day cricket because he is a very proud man.
"But they will come. He is too good a player to keep missing out and someone is going to pay for it."
Mitchell said: "It was my night and long may that continue because I haven't had many so far this year!
"I've been around long enough to know if you keep doing the right things and keep working hard, then things will work out in the end.
"Twenty20 is a great game where you can just free your arms and look to hit the ball and play a bit more of your natural game and not think about it too much, see the ball, hit the ball and just work on instinct a little bit more.
"I've got a few runs and a little bit of time in the middle the last couple of games so hopefully that will take its toll in the championship."
