Mixed Fortunes For Centurion Oliver As Seconds Forced To Follow On

Mixed Fortunes For Centurion Oliver As Seconds Forced To Follow On

Worcestershire's triallist opener Richard Oliver experienced mixed fortunes as his side were forced to follow on in the Second Eleven Championship match with Derbyshire at Derby.

Shropshire captain Oliver scored his second century in three days as he followed his 106 in the Second Eleven Trophy match between the sides with 107 in Worcestershire's first innings after Derbyshire declared on their overnight 422-2.

Oliver hit one six and 19 fours in his 121 ball innings but fought a virtual lone battle as the county were dismissed for 171 in 32.2 overs.

George Rhodes (14) provided the best support to Oliver in a fifth wicket stand of 72 before the last five wickets fell for 16 runs.

Worcestershire were asked to follow on 251 behind and this time Oliver experienced the other side of cricket’s fortunes as he was dismissed for a first ball duck.

Alex Hepburn and Tom Fell added 74 for the second wicket and looked well established until the latter departed for 47.

Skipper Joe Leach helped Hepburn put on a further 56 before rain and bad light ended play for the day with Worcestershire on 132-2 – 119 in arrears.

Hepburn finished unbeaten on 65 from 141 balls.
