Moeen Ali To Compete In Ipl For The First Time With Challengers

Moeen Ali will be competing in the Indian Premier League (IPL)for the first time in 2018.

The Worcestershire all-rounder put himself forward for the IPL auction today in Bangalore despite admitting to having doubts as to whether he would be snapped up.

But the 30-year-old need not have worried as he was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise for almost £190,000.

The 11th season of the IPL will run from April 7 to May 27.

Moeen put himself forward two years ago for the IPL auction but withdrew because of ECB concerns over his workload as a player involved in all three formats with England.

Then 12 months ago he pulled out of playing in the Pakistan Super League T20 competition for Quetta Gladiators and opted instead to link up with members of his family on a pilgrimage to Mecca.

Moeen has played in 22 T20Is for England but his last appearance was nearly 12 months ago in India.

He will be joined at RCB by fellow England all-rounder Chris Woakes who was bought for £812,000.

Ben Stokes (£1.4 million) and Jos Buttler (£488,000) will both be playing for Rajasthan Royals while Jason Roy (£164,000) is going to Delhi Daredevils.

But England Test captain Joe Root and keeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow were amongst those not sold on the first day of the two day auction.
