Moeen Dismisses Former County Team-Mate Smith As England Go Under To Australia

Moeen Ali dismissed his former Worcestershire team-mate Steve Smith in England's opening Tri-Series match with Australia in Sydney.

Smith, who played T20 cricket at New Road in 2010, came down the wicket and tried to hit Moeen over cover and was bowled for 37.

It was Moeen's 11 ODI wicket in his 13th appearance for his country and left Australia on 158-3 in the 28th over.

Australia achieved a three wicket victory with 10.1 overs to spare thanks to David Warner's first ODI century for more than two years – and his first against England.

Warner reached the milestone with a sweep for four in Moeen's ninth over.

Moeen had an lbw shout against Warner turned down from the very first ball of his spell as he attempted a reverse sweep.

Replays also indicated that George Bailey on four should have been given out lbw when he tried to pull Moeen over mid wicket.

Moeen had come on in the 18th over and bowled nine on the trot in finishing with 1-45.

England were dismissed for 234 after electing to bat but even that was a recovery from 12-3 and 69-5 thanks mainly to 121 from skipper Eoin Morgan.

Moeen made 22 off 21 balls including a six over long on off Aussie paceman Mitchell Starc who was voted man of the match for his four wicket blast.

He was fourth out at 33 when he holed out from a back of a length delivery by James Faulkner to Glenn Maxwell in the deep on the off side after driving on the up.
