Moeen Ali returned to action for the first time in seven weeks and spent some useful time in the middle on day one of England’s warm-up match against a West Indies President’s X1 at the Three W’s Stadium.
The Worcestershire all-rounder and Vitality Blast winning captain had his first knock since the third and final Test against Sri Lanka in late November.
The 31-year-old made 21 off 50 balls with two boundaries batting at number six after coming to the wicket with the total 175-4.
He added 42 for the fifth wicket with Ben Stokes (56) before being caught by one-time Worcestershire overseas player and Windies paceman Miguel Cummins.
Moeen was dismissed after trying to drag a short ball from off spinner Bryan Charles onto the leg side.
England were bowled out for 284 in their first innings with Test captain Joe Root (87) their top scorer.
But the agreement was that both sides would bat for a full day so England went in for a second time and totalled 317 runs in the day.
Moeen will have the chance to bowl this evening on day two after a successful series in Sri Lanka which brought him 18 wickets from three Tests.
