Moeen Ali admitted being promoted with Worcestershire was the "icing on the cake" for his own golden summer – and he now wants the county to go up as champions.
The all-rounder has established himself in the England side and yesterday became the first Worcestershire player since Graeme Hick in 2000 to be awarded a central contract.
Then Jack Shantry's 10 wicket haul and unbeaten century enabled Worcestershire to recover after being outplayed for long periods by Surrey and clinch promotion to Division One of the LV = County Championship today at New Road via a 27 run win.
Moeen said: "It feels great. Our target was to try and wrap it up and go up this week and to win the game like that after being down and out almost was brilliant.
"For Shants to play the way he did and then to bowl the way he did, was fantastic and I'm very happy for him and all the lads.
"We didn't play well probably until today. Shants played really well. That partnership was crucial with Joe Leach (108).
"In general we didn't play very well. We didn't bowl very well first innings, apart from Shants again, and we didn't bat well.
"To win the game and not play so well is a fantastic achievement.
"For me being promoted is the icing on cake for me after a great summer and now hopefully we can go up as champions."
England's hectic schedule may curtail the part Moeen can play for Worcestershire next summer.
He said: "I love playing for Worcestershire and if I don't play at all next year I will be gutted.
"But I'll also be happy because it means I am doing alright for England so we will see what happens.
"It's a long time away now. I've got a busy winter hopefully. It's too far to think about now but I'll be preparing to play Division One next year anyway."
