Moeen Helps Ballance Rescue England With Fifth Wicket Stand At Lord’s

Moeen Ali made a telling contribution with the bat before being dismissed during the the final stages of the second day of the second Investec Test with India at Lord's.

The Worcestershire all-rounder came to the wicket with England in trouble at 113-4 in reply to India's first innings total of 295.

But Moeen helped Gary Ballance rebuild the innings during a fifth wicket partnership of 98 in 32 overs.

Ballance was the more aggressive and reached his second hundred in two Lord's Tests this summer.

But Moeen's support was invaluable and hit four boundaries in his 32 from 106 balls.

Three of them came off spinner Ravindra Jadeja who had fallen to the bowling of Moeen during India's innings.

But it was part-time spinner Murali Vijay who brought about Moeen's downfall in the penultimate over before the second new ball was due.

Moeen hit the previous ball for four over mid-wicket but then tried to work the same bowler on the on side and was adjudged lbw.

Ballance also fell before the close as England ended on 219-6 from 86 overs.
