Moeen Ali helped England end the summer on a winning note as they defeated India by three runs in a NatWest T20 International at Edgbaston.
The Worcestershire all-rounder was dismissed for a duck batting at number three as England posted 180-7 thanks chiefly to skipper Eoin Morgan's 71 off 31 balls after he elected to bat.
But Moeen shared the new ball and picked up an important wicket in his first over when he dismissed Ajinkya Rahane for eight.
Rahane swept Moeen's first legitimate delivery for six after he had started with a wide but was bowled around his legs by the next ball which contained more pace.
Moeen bowled three one-over spells and finished with 1-31.
India needed four from the final delivery of the game from Chris Woakes to force a Super Over shoot-out.
But Moeen safely fielded skipper MS Dhoni's shot to the mid-wicket boundary as India closed on 177-5.
Moeen can reflect on making 10 appearances for his country this summer – his first of international cricket after breaking in the side in February.
He played in all seven Tests – two versus Sri Lanka and five against India – two ODIs versus India and yesterday's T20 encounter.
Moeen was booed by sections of the Edgbaston crowd when coming into bat and whilst fielding as had been the case during the Royal London One-Day International on the same ground between the two teams.
Sky commentator David Lloyd said: "It is staggering, incredible. These blokes should get out more." Fellow Sky commentator Nick Knight said: "It's way out of order. He's a local lad who played part of his career here."
