Moeen Hits 146 And Falls Just Short Of Test Best

Moeen Hits 146 And Falls Just Short Of Test Best

Moeen Ali came within nine runs of his career best Test score before finally being dismissed on day two of the fifth Test against India in Chennai.

The Worcestershire all-rounder scored 155 not out against Sri Lanka at Chester Le Street in May.

And the 29-year-old advanced from his overnight 120 to 146 before he pulled Umesh Yadav to Ravindra Jadeja at deep mid wicket.

Moeen has now scored 1,034 Test runs during 2016 at an average of 47 with four hundreds and five fifties in 28 innings.

The Pakistan seamers had targeted Moeen with a series of shorter deliveries today and one of those eventually led to his downfall.

Moeen was seventh out at 321 after coming to the wicket at 21-2 and he struck one six and 13 fours in his 262 ball knock.

That one six came today at the expense of spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who was lofted over the ropes at wide long off.

In the same over Moeen also flayed Ashwin to the mid wicket boundary before finally falling in the first over after the drinks break.

But then Liam Dawson (66 not out) and Adil Rasid (60) made valuable contributions to lift England to 477 all out in the final session.
