Moeen Launches 2015 With Half Century In England Warm-Up Win

Moeen Ali launched 2015 with a half century for England in a 15-a-side warm-up match for the Tri-Series with Australia and India against the Australian Capital Territory X1 at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.

The Worcestershire all-rounder was one of five England batsman to pass the 50 mark in a 216 run win against a side of mainly amateur players.

He also weighed in with two wickets.

England elected to bat on winning the toss and Moeen raced to exactly 50 off 38 deliveries. He hit two sixes and seven fours out of an opening stand of 76 with Ian Bell.

Moeen was eventually stumped by Andrew Herriott off the bowling of left arm spinner Shane Devoy from the first ball of the 11th over.

He had also registered a half century in the warm-up match of the pre-Christmas tour of Sri Lanka.

Bell, James Taylor, Joe Root and Ravi Bopara also scored fifties as England amassed 364-6 in their 50 overs.

The ACT X1 provided little resistance to the England bowlers and were dismissed for 148 in 32.4 overs.

Moeen was the seventh bowler used and finished with 2-14 from 2.4 overs.

England will expect a stiffer test against the Prime Minister's X1 at the same venue on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Moeen has become an ambassador for the Orphans in Need charity.

He said: "Very happy and humbled to be an ambassador for Orphans In Need charity. Orphans have a special place in my heart!"
