Moeen Ali will be looking to help England bounce back from their opening match defeat in the Tri-Series against Australia in Sydney when they face India in Brisbane tomorrow.
The Worcestershire all-rounder scored 22 and took one wicket – of his former county team-mate Steve Smith – in the three wicket reversal on Friday.
Victory in this match is crucial for both teams in their quest to reach the final after India were also beaten by the host nation in Melbourne yesterday.
But Joe Root has stressed the need for England’s top-four batsmen to be on song if they are to enjoy a successful Tri-Series and World Cup.
England never fully recovered from being 0-2 and 33-4 – the juncture at which Moeen was dismissed – against the Aussies.
Root said: "If we are going to make big scores we need the top four to get the majority of the runs, we know that.
"We have proved that in the lead-up to this series, in our warm-up games and out in Sri Lanka as well."
Paceman James Anderson could return to England’s side tomorrow after missing the last two matches.
Meanwhile, Moeen and his team-mates will not have to face Australia stand-in captain George Bailey in Friday's return clash at Hobart’s Bellerive Oval.
Bailey has been banned for one game and fined 20 per cent of his match fee – his second such offence as skipper in 12 months – for maintaining a slow over-rate against India.
Australia were ruled to be one over short of their target at the end of the match when time allowances were taken into consideration.
Bailey pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing. His players have been fined 10 per cent of their match fees.
