Moeen Ali has started his preparations for the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in Bangladesh as two former Worcestershire players made the head-lines on the opening day.
Paceman Doug Bollinger, who spent the 2007 campaign at New Road, has been called into the Australian squad as a replacement for Mitchell Johnson.
England's Ashes destroyer has been ruled out of the tournament with a toe infection.
Bollinger played the last of his 12 Tests in 2010 and made his final ODI appearance to date three years ago.
Meanwhile left arm spinner Shakib Al-Hasan, who had two spells with Worcestershire in 2010 and 2011, made an impressive start for the host nation as they crushed Afghanistan by nine wickets.
Shakib, who was the world's number one ranked all-rounder when he joined the county, returned figures of 3-8 as Bangladesh dismissed their opponents for 72 and cruised to victory.
Moeen is currently honing his skills as part of the squad for England's opening match of the tournament at the weekend against New Zealand.
Moeen played in all three ODI's and two of the Twenty20 internationals during the recent tour of the West Indies – his breakthrough at senior international level for England.
