Moeen Ali has retained his place in the England squad for the second Test with Sri Lanka at Headingley which starts on Friday.
The Worcestershire all-rounder made his Test debut for his country in the thrilling draw with Sri Lanka at Lord's which ended yesterday with the tourists nine wickets down.
Ali scored 48 in the first innings, helping Joe Root to launch an England recovery during a fifth wicket stand of 89, and four in the second innings.
He had figures of 1-56 from 16 overs with his off spin in the first innings – including the prized wicket of Kumar Sangakkara – and 0-35 from 12 overs in the second innings after England opted not to play a front-line spinner.
Ali, who had represented England at ODI and Twenty20 level during the winter, will be hoping a strong performance can secure a place in the squad for the main Test series of the summer against India.
His inclusion for Headingley means Ali will be unable to participate in Worcestershire's home NatWest T20 Blast clash with local rivals Birmingham Bears on Friday.
The derby is already close to being a sell-out with less than 500 tickets left.
