Moeen Retains Place In England Twenty20 Squad To Face Sri Lanka

Moeen Ali has retained his place in the England Twenty20 squad for the Natwest International T20 at the Kia Oval next Tuesday (May 20).

The Worcestershire all-rounder featured in all four of England's matches in the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in Bangladesh this winter.

He had made his England debut in the format during two matches against the West Indies prior to the ICC event.

Moeen, however, has not been selected in the squad for the opening three games of the Royal London One-Day Series against Sri Lanka on May 22, 25 and 28.

He scored 44, 10 and 55 in three ODI's against the West Indies and took a wicket in each match despite limited bowling opportunities.

Moeen was named in the squad for last week's ODI against Scotland in Aberdeen although he was not named in the starting eleven in a match which was reduced to 20 overs per side by the weather.

Moeen's call-up for the Twenty20 international means he will be unavailable for the LV = County Championship clash with Essex at New Road starting on Sunday (May 18).

Alex Hales was signed on loan from Nottinghamshire as cover for Moeen and he scored 15 and 63 on his debut against Glamorgan at the Swalec Stadium.

But Hales, also named in the England Twenty20 squad, is now back in the Nottinghamshire four-day side and in action during the current match with Northamptonshire.
