Moeen Ali has made a significant contribution to England's Ashes success with the bat – despite featuring at number eight or nine throughout the opening four Tests.

The Worcestershire all-rounder is currently England's second highest run-scorer in the series.

Moeen has scored 228 runs in six knocks at an average of 38.00 with a highest score of 77 in the opening Test at the Swalec Stadium.

The 28-year-old also registered a half century in the win on his former home ground at Edgbaston.

Moeen has proved ideal in string together partnerships with the lower order and tail which have eked out priceless runs.

On the bowling front Moeen has taken nine wickets in the opening four Tests – with a best haul of five at Cardiff.

His overall figures are 9-444 from 105.4 overs at 49.33 runs apiece with an economy rate of 4.20 and a strike rate of 70.4.

In the latest ICC Test rankings, Moeen has risen up to 50th position in the batting charts – his highest ever slot – and is on 506 points.

Bowling-wise he is lying in 34th position with 438 points – a slight drop on his best ever figure of 480 points in early July.
