MOEEN STARTS WORLD CUP PREPARATIONS AFTER SHINING IN IPL

Moeen Ali can reflect on a successful spell in the Indian Premier League after linking up with England for a pre-ICC World Cup training camp in Cardiff.

The Worcestershire all-rounder has tasted his first elongated spell of action in the IPL during his second season with Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Moeen played in all 11 of the group matches that he was available for – compared to just five in 2018 – and made a telling contribution with bat and ball.

He ended with 220 runs at an average of 27.50 with two half centuries and his sides’s highest strike rate of 165.41.

Moeen smashed 17 sixes with only AB de Villiers (25) clearing the ropes on more occasions for the Challengers.

His 66 0ff 28 balls and 26 off 16 deliveries helped his side to gain recent victories over Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings.

On the bowling front, Moeen was the Challengers second most economical bowler, conceding just 6.76 runs per over.

The Rapids Vitality Blast winning captain ended with six wickets at an average of 28.16 before heading back to England.

Moeen was named in a preliminary 15-man squad named by England for the World Cup which gets underway on May 30.

The squad will gather in Wales plus pace bowlers Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan.
