Moeen Ali removed Australian dangerman David Warner in another tight spell of bowling as England triumphed by four wickets in the second ODI in Brisbane today.
The Worcestershire all-rounder struck in his second over to break an opening stand of 68 in 12 overs between Warner and century-maker Aaron Finch.
Warner on 35 looked to push the ball onto the off side but only succeeded in finding the outside edge – and England Test captain Joe Root held onto the chance at slip.
Moeen bowled an initial five over spell of 1-18 and returned for a further two over spell which could have brought the wicket of Finch on 62.
Keeper Jos Buttler failed to hold onto a nick.
Moeen ended with figures of 7-0-31-1 – including 18 dot balls – to add to his 10-0-39-1 in the opening game of the series.
Australia totalled 270-9 in their 50 overs with Finch scoring 106 from 114 balls with one six and nine fours.
Jonny Bairstow (60) and former Worcestershire loan player Alex Hales (57) then added 117 in 20 overs for the second wicket.
Moeen made only a single before he was bowled by a superb full and swinging delivery from Mitchell Starc in the same over he dismissed Buttler for 42 to leave England on 227-6.
But Root (46 not out) and a rapid 39 not out from Chris Woakes saw England to victory with 5.4 overs to spare.
