Moeen Ali produced a deadly spell of bowling – including the prized wicket of AB De Villiers – to hurry England to victory by 241 runs on the final morning of the first Test against South Africa in Durban.
The Worcestershire all-rounder wrecked any hopes the Proteas had of saving the game with a burst of 3-3 in 24 balls.
They were eventually bowled out for 174 after losing their last six wickets for 38 runs today.
Moeen finished with figures of 3-47 from 26 overs in the second innings and a match analysis of 51-12-116-7 – and that after conceding 39 runs in his first seven overs of the game.
It was a performance which resulted in him being voted the official man of the match.
The 28-year-old opened the bowling after South Africa resumed on 136-4 and his third ball of the day accounted for De Villiers.
He came around the wicket and De Villiers played back and was trapped lbw without addition to his overnight 37.
De Villiers reviewed the decision but the ball was shown to be clipping his leg stump and he had to leave the middle.
It was fitting that Moeen should claim the scalp of De Villiers after Jonny Bairstow had missed a stumping chance off his bowling shortly before the close of play last night.
Moeen struck again in his second over as Temba Bavuma (0) came down the pitch but the ball went past the outside edge – and this time Bairstow completed the stumping.
Steven Finn bowled Dale Steyn (2) with an excellent delivery to claim his fourth wicket of the innings.
Then Moeen got in on the wicket-taking again as Worcestershire 2016 overseas signing Kyle Abbott (2) played back and was lbw with South Africa then 143-8.
Moeen had figures of 8-5-4-3 in his initial spell of the day.
Chris Woakes came into the attack and got rid of Dane Piedt (0) as the ball ballooned up off bat and pad to James Taylor at short leg.
Moeen was soon back into the attack with England needing one more wicket to go 1-0 up in the four match series.
It came when Stuart Broad, who had bowled superbly in the first innings, dismissed Morne Morkel lbw for eight.
