Moeen’s Flying Start Earns Lavish Praise From England Batting Coach Ramprakash

Moeen Ali came in for praise from England batting coach Mark Ramprakash for making "a real statement" with his innings in the warm-up clash against Sri Lanka 'A' in Colombo on Friday.

The Worcestershire all-rounder opened the innings and hammered a 21-ball half century in England's win under the Duckworth Lewis Method.

Ramprakash is hoping Moeen's knock will act as a yardstick as to the type of ODI cricket England want to play during the seven games in Sri Lanka and the World Cup in the New Year.

He said: "Moeen made a real statement there, not just to himself but to the whole group as to the brand of cricket we want to try to play.

"Obviously, you have to assess conditions as well and adapt to them.

"But essentially the mind-set for the England one-day group this winter is to go in and try to put the pressure back on the opposition, to try to impose ourselves.

"You don't often see that from an English player, to go out and play with that flair and confidence.

"I'm so pleased he's done that and it was fantastic to watch."

Moeen and his team-mates were denied further practice when yesterday's second warm-up game against Sri Lanka 'A' was washed out without a ball being bowled.
