Munro Helps Auckland To Secure Thrilling Last Ball Victory

Munro Helps Auckland To Secure Thrilling Last Ball Victory

Colin Munro was part of the Auckland side which gained a thrilling last ball one wicket win over visiting Northern Districts in the Ford Trophy in New Zealand.

Munro, who played NatWest T20 Blast cricket for Worcestershire last season, made a quickfire 15 off 13 balls batting at number five as Auckland chased down a 301 target.

He has now scored 265 runs in the competition at an average of 66.25.

Victory – their fifth in seven games in the competition – kept Auckland on target to reach the finals.

They are currently lying in second spot in the table with 24 points – two behind Central Districts.

Northern Districts posted a formidable 300 all out in their 50 overs.

The home side's top eight all made at least double figures with Craig Cachopa (80) their top scorer.

But the nerves were jangling when the ninth wicket went down to the penultimate ball of the game from Anurag Verma with two still required for victory.

Last man Matthew Quinn ensured victory for Auckland with a straight drive for four much to the delight of Munro, who was Worcestershire's second highest T20 Blast scorer, and his team-mates.

This evening another Black Cap who played for Worcestershire last season, paceman Mitchell McClenaghan, will be part of the New Zealand squad to face Sri Lanka in the fourth ODI in Nelson.
