Munro Set For Rapids Home Debut Against Natwest T20 Blast Holders

New Road fans will get their first view of Worcestershire Rapids hard-hitting overseas player Colin Munro in tomorrow's first NatWest T20 Blast home fixture of the season against Northamptonshire Steelbacks (start 5.30pm).

The New Zealand batsman gave the Rapids players a first glimpse of his power during their pre-season tour of Abu Dhabi when they did battle with the Black Caps in a Twenty20 fixture.

Munro has already showed his six-hitting ability in the T20 Blast with three in one over against Samit Patel in last week's excellent victory over Nottinghamshire Outlaws at Trent Bridge.

But now the 27-year-old is set to play in front of the Rapids fans for the first time as they take on the current holders of the competition.

Skipper Daryl Mitchell said: "Colin is a really powerful batter and we've seen evidence of that already.

"We also saw it from the other side of the fence when we played against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi.

"He got something like 60 off 30 balls and struck the ball incredibly well, real power. I'm sure he will excite the home crowd.

"I played cricket against him when I was in Auckland and he is an exciting young talent with a lot to prove and I'm sure he will be looking to do well through the summer."

Mitchell believes the Rapids home supporters can have a key role to play as the county bid to finish in the top four in the North group and qualify for the quarter-finals.

He said: "If we can get full houses or big crowds for the homes games, it certainly gives us a massive boost as players.

"To have the New Road crowd behind you is almost like the 12th man at times. Hopefully that will help."
