New Road To Stage England Under-19S Test Versus India

New Road To Stage England Under-19S Test Versus India

Worcestershire CCC will host the second 'Test' between England Under-19s and their Indian counterparts this summer.

New Road will be the venue for the four-day encounter from July 31 to August 3.

Last summer SIX Worcestershire players received Under-19 call-ups including Ollie Westbury who scored 196 on his debut in the first 'Test' against Sri Lanka at Fenners.

Two of the six were forced to withdraw through injury in pace duo Josh Tongue and George Scrimshaw.

But it was still a superb achievement to have so many players chosen and testament to the academy coach Elliot Wilson and the Worcestershire CCC pathway.

Scrimshaw and Josh Dell went onto be part of the Young Lions training camp in the UAE this winter.

England will be aiming for revenge on home soil in the one-day series, after losing 3-1 in a five-match series in Mumbai in January and February, which ended with a tie.

The teams then drew two four-day matches in Nagpur, with the England captain Max Holden and Somerset’s George Bartlett sharing a record-breaking partnership of 321 in the first match which ended with India 189 for eight in pursuit of a victory target of 238.

“There was some excellent cricket in both series out in India, which was so beneficial to our players in terms of their experience and development,” said Andy Hurry, the head coach of the Young Lions programme.

“So playing a return series in home conditions will offer the players selected more high-quality cricket, with both red ball and white ball – and will also be valuable in our planning and preparations for the ICC Under-19s World Cup in New Zealand early next year.”
