Alex Gidman is looking forward to the "amazingly exciting opportunity" given to him by Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes after signing a two year contract at New Road from next season.
Gidman has ended his long association with Gloucestershire as he strives to "reach the goals I still want to achieve in the game."
He will become Worcestershire's most senior player age-wise at 33 after enjoying a prolific end to the 2014 season including a hundred against Worcestershire at New Road and a double ton against Leicestershire.
Gidman ended up with 1,277 runs and was the third highest scorer in Division Two of the LV = County Championship behind Hampshire's James Vince and Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell.
He said: "It is an exciting time for me, but more importantly it is an exciting time for the club.
"I'm very pleased to be part of it moving forward and be part of the challenges that lie ahead.
"It was a big decision to leave Gloucestershire after all those years. In my mind, it was something that I felt during a couple of weeks in the middle of the summer and I felt like I needed to perhaps push myself and take myself out of my comfort zone a little bit.
"It was as simple as that really and, once I had made that decision, there was no going back.
"It was something I needed to commit to and thankfully Worcestershire have given me an amazingly exciting opportunity.
"It's a professional sport we play and I wanted to try and get some more out of myself and ultimately in order to reach the goals I still want to achieve in the game, a change would be the best thing for me."
Gidman added: "It is a very personal decision and I'm really grateful that Bumpy (Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes) has given me the opportunity to come and give it a crack at Worcestershire.
"I had some wonderful experiences at Gloucestershire, winning some trophies and captaining the team, so I had some great memories there.
"But I'm still fit and young enough to have a really good crack at a new challenge."
