Nine Worcs Seconds Batsmen Score Centuries During 2015 Campaign

Nine Worcs Seconds Batsmen Score Centuries During 2015 Campaign

Nine Worcestershire batsmen scored a combined total of 18 centuries for the county's Second Eleven during the 2015 campaign.

Alex Hepburn led the way with four while there were three for Brett D'Oliveira who has forced his way into the senior side in the opening batsman's role.

Joe Clarke became the first Worcestershire player to score two double hundreds for the Seconds with his 201 not out against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham College.

That also led to him being elevated into the senior side and culminated in an England Lions spot along with Ross Whiteley for the winter programme in the UAE.

On the bowling front, there were two five-wicket or more hauls for a trio of players in Chris Russell, Ed Barnard and Ben Twohig.

All-rounder Barnard has also progressed into the first team set-up, playing every white-ball game this summer, while spinner Twohig is one of the many bright Academy prospects.

But it was another Academy member, paceman Josh Tongue, who returned the best figures of the summer – 6-27 against Hampshire at Kidderminster in the final game of the season.

Second Eleven coach Kevin Sharp and Academy coach Elliot Wilson have been keen to promote Academy players into the second team to enhance their cricketing education.

*Sharp will be looking back at the season via the Worcestershire web-site in the next few days.
