Worcestershire opener Richard Oliver admits he has always got a buzz from captaincy after skippering half a dozen sides at different levels.
Oliver was in charge this week of the Worcestershire 'Pears' side in a two-day friendly with Worcestershire 'Rapids' at Kidderminster – teams made up of first team players not in action at Northampton, second eleven and academy players.
The 25-year-old has just spent the winter successfully skippering Geelong City in Australia and is always ready to stick up his hand if someone is needed to lead a team.
Oliver, who has been in fine form for the county during pre-season, said: "It was the first time for Geelong but I've captained most of the clubs I've played for over the last 10 years since I've been playing senior cricket.
"It's something I've always enjoyed.
"First of all it was Woore CC and then Whitchurch and then Wrekin College and then Shropshire and then Willetton Crows in Perth and then Geelong City.
"Not everyone puts their hand up to do it and I'm someone who puts their hand up to do it.
"That is not to say I don't enjoy my cricket when I'm not captain. It is certainly a lot less stressful!
"But if you are confident in your ability to try and take everyone with you in what you are trying to achieve, then why not?
"At the end of the day I've got nothing to lose. If it goes wrong, I'll give it up for the next person to have a go.
"If they still want me to do it, that's great as well. It's just a natural thing for me really."
