Paceman Brown Handed First Team Debut Against Sussex

Pat Brown will make his first class debut for Worcestershire in today’s Specsavers County Championship clash with Sussex at New Road.
The 18-year-old paceman made the breakthrough into the senior team by playing in four successive NatWest T20 Blast matches against Notts Outlaws, Northamptonshire Steelbacks, Durham Jets and Birmingham Bears.
Now Director Of Cricket Steve Rhodes has handed the Peterborough born player his chance in the longer format of the game.
Brown comes into the side in place of Ross Whiteley in the only change from the team which drew with Gloucestershire at Cheltenham in the last Championship match a month ago.
Tom Fell returns to first team action after not being part of the squad for the NatWest T20 Blast so far this summer.
He has experienced a challenging summer but scored a century for the Seconds this week against Nottinghamshire.
Rhodes said: “Tom has got a double hundred and two centuries in the second team so he has definitely been getting runs for them.
“That will hold him in good stead and we all want Tom to return to his best form in the first team and when he is playing well, he is a beautiful player to watch, and it is a lot of enjoyment watching him bat.
“Let’s hope he can take that second team performance into first team cricket and do just as well.
“Is it one of those runs everyone goes through? Definitely. He is a very relaxed, laidback character but I’m sure inside he has been absolutely pining for some runs in the first team.
“When that happens, even to the most relaxed people you could meet, they probably try too hard and get a bit desperate and anxious and those are the things that happen when you are going through one of those trots when nothing seems to go right for you.
“But he knows the more he does relax and gets his brain in a good position, than it will be helpful to him.”
