Professional Cricketers' Association chairman Daryl Mitchell is making his mark in his own organisation’s Most Valuable Player Rankings with his first century of the season in the Specsavers County Championship win over Derbyshire at the 3aaa County Ground.
Mitchell reached the personal landmark of 10,000 first-class runs for Worcestershire when on 87 and went onto compile his 25th century which laid the foundations for Worcestershire’s innings victory.
The 33-year-old earned 19 PCA MVP points for his innings which went towards his season’s best rankings haul of 21 points.
Mitchell , who also reached the milestone of 3,000 List A runs in helping Worcestershire reach the semi-finals of the Royal London One Day Cup, is now in 52nd place in this season’s overall PCA MVP table.
The PCA MVP Rankings system identifies the match-winners and key influencers of matches throughout the domestic season.
The formula takes into account conditions, quality of opposition, captaincy and strike-rates as well as runs scored and wickets taken.
Skipper Joe Leach is the county’s best-placed player in the overall and championship PCA MVPs.
Leach took nine wickets in the match against Derbyshire, including five in the second innings, and earned 36 rankings points to climb into seventh place in both the overall and championship rankings tables.
Leach led the overall PCA MVP for most of the first half of last season and is now 78 points behind Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens, this season’s pacesetter, in the overall rankings.
Stevens also leads the championship PCA MVP on 151 points, 57 ahead of Leach.
John Hastings – currently preparing for the ICC Champions Trophy with Australia – is Worcestershire’s second highest-placed player in the overall PCA MVP in 41st position with 115 points.
All-rounder Ed Barnard is one place and a point ahead of Mitchell with batsman Tom Kohler-Cadmore 63rd, Brett D’Oliveira 65th and Ben Cox 75th.
Barnard and Josh Tongue are 69th and 70th in the championship rankings table with Hastings 85th and D’Oliveira 96th also in the top 100.
