Dillon Pennington is making encouraging progress with his fitness after his return from injury and on target to be available for selection for the away Specsavers County Championship match with Glamorgan from June 30.
The Worcestershire paceman suffered an ankle injury during training in mid April and was initially set to be side-lined for up to two months.
But he has made a rapid progress with his rehabilitation programme.
Pennington has played for Shrewsbury in the Birmingham League and then two T20s and a Championship match for the Seconds at Northampton although the weather meant he could only bowl five overs in the latter fixture rather than 10 in each innings.
But the 20-year-old, who has just completed this summer’s exams at the City of Worcester University, has been able to bowl more than 20 overs in the nets at Kidderminster this week.
Worcestershire Head Of Science and Medicine, Ben Davies said: “The recent weather meant Dillon could not bowl the number of overs we were hoping for in the Seconds.
“But he is making good progress and this week has got through 22 overs in the nets will no problems.
“The plan is for him to play against Australia A and then the three-day Seconds Championship match with Derbyshire with a view to him being available for selection for the first team Championship match at Cardiff.”
