New Birmingham Phoenix Head Coach Andrew McDonald has linked up with Worcestershire Rapids for the next few days.

McDonald will lead the Phoenix in next year’s The Hundred competition when Worcestershire First Team Coach Alex Gidman will be one of his assistants.

The Australian has just spent a similar period of time with the coaches and players of Warwickshire (Birmingham Bears).

He joined in with the Rapids pre-match routine ahead of yesterday evening’s Vitality Blast match with Lancashire Lightning at Emirates Old Trafford.

Gidman confirmed: “Andrew is here for a few days. He spent the week with Warwickshire previously.

“He is coming to help out, observe and try and learn and spend a bit of time with us just chatting about what is going to happen next year.”

McDonald’s appointment as the Phoenix head coach was confirmed before the Rapids-Bears Blast game at Blackfinch New Road eight days ago when he spoke with the media.
