Richard Oliver has set his sights on earning a contract with Worcestershire after his hurricane 77 powered the Rapids to a five wicket win over Northamptonshire Steelbacks in the NatWest T20 Blast at New Road.
But he is determined not to rest on his laurels and wants to keep trying to impress Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes.
Shropshire captain Oliver says he has until June 14 to prove that he is worthy of a deal with the county and wants to make most of the opportunity given to him.
The 24-year-old followed up his scores of 43, 34 and four in the competition with a sparkling array of strokes and powerful hitting as Worcestershire reached their 135 target with nearly six overs to spare.
Oliver had already scored two hundreds for the Second Eleven before being given his chance at first team level.
He said: "I feel like I was due (a score). I've been around awhile, I'm on trial and you are always trying to prove yourself. Hopefully that's a start for me.
"I'd had a 30 and a 40, which was alright, but 77 is double that so I'll take that anyday of the week!
"As regards a contract, you want to put yourself in a position where they can't not sign you and that is easier said than done.
"I just want to keep turning up, keep winning games and hopefully that will be enough to keep me around for a while.
"I've got two weeks left and June 14 is dead-line day and that's when I know if they will hire or fire me.
"There is still a lot of work to do, I'm not going to rest on my laurels. I really want to bang the door down and make an impression in the six weeks I'm here."
Oliver was delighted to contribute to Worcestershire's victory in their first home T20 Blast game of the season.
He said: "We've played two very good sides in Notts and the holders Northants and come away with two very good wins.
"I've always loved playing T20. I love all forms of the game but I feel in T20 I can express myself. I love it and I enjoy being a part of this Worcestershire set-up.
"They've made me feel very welcome and I just want to stick around as long as I possibly can."
Rhodes agreed that Oliver was making a convincing case to be offered a contract.
He said: "Definitely so. He has had contributions in three of the four games so far and he is really well liked at the club, gets on well with the guys and is showing what a good player he is.
"Somewhere down the line, you can't play like that without getting a go.
"He doesn't look out of place and that is what has impressed me. He is 24 and has got a cricket brain and has captained Shropshire."
