Rapids Name 12 Man Squad For Sold-Out New Road T20 Blast Derby Battle

Worcestershire Rapids have named a 12 man squad for tonight's (Friday's) sold-out NatWest T20 Blast derby with Birmingham Bears at New Road (5.30pm start).

Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes has kept faith with the party selected for last Friday's win over Derbyshire Falcons at Derby.

All-rounder Gareth Andrew is included along with the 11 players who featured in the eight run success over the Falcons – their fifth successive T20 Blast victory.

Rhodes played in many derbys during his two decades as a player at New Road and admits it is a contest in which he likes to come out on top.

He said: "The Yorkshire-Lancashire games when I was a youngster were big but, to me, when I was playing against Warwickshire, it was always a side I wanted to beat.

"It's mainly through respect. They are a terrific outfit and they will be difficult opposition.

"But what I am enjoying about the T20 and the four-day stuff is that we've got four or five different personnel coming and going from the two teams.

"What that is doing is keeping people fresh and keeping interest levels really high.

"It is also keeping the determination for those guys who come into the four-day team to do well and it's also keeing the determination for the guys in the T20s to come in and do well because they want to continue winning habits in both formats.

"I hope the weather is good and everyone turns up because it's a great occasion, the Worcs-Warwicks games and T20 with all the razzamattaz and fun.

"It really is enjoyable and great for the lads who have got the tickets but a shame for the ones who have missed out."
